Laser Hair Removal. Finding The Best Laser For Safe, Effective, Affordable Hair Removal. There are some guide to finding the best Laser Hair Removal Spa.

When I opened completely bare, I answered a need that plagued New Yorkers: permanent hair reduction, done in a chic setting by the experts in the industry. I know, however, all you ladies in blog land might not be able to make it to CB to meet your hair removal needs. That’s why I’m providing some helpful tips and questions to ask when choosing an effective professional hair removal spa near you:

Always ask if everyone at the spa have received treatments themselves. This includes the person that has answered the phone. You wouldn’t eat at a restaurant where the waiters haven’t tried the food.

Ask how the treatment worked for them. Everyone is different and will respond to treatment differently. This may give you a good indication of how the process varies for each person.

How long have they been in business, and how many locations do they have?

Do they offer a complimentary test patch? You need to know how the treatment feels before you commit to it.

Also ask how many laser services they perform per day. The more they do, they more experienced they are with different skin types. I like to use and example that everyone can relate to: when you get your hair done, each blow dryer is pretty much the same wherever you go. The difference is, one stylist has the talent and experience to give you a better blow out than the next.

Don’t ever feel like you’re asking too many questions. A service as personal as this is all about your comfort level.

“Since recently I am a big fan of laser hair removal. I used to avoid it because of high price. But I found that it is affordable!!!” According to this, the price of laser hair removal is the most important factor.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

Average Number of Treatments: 5
National Average Cost Per-Treatment: $353.75

Worth the Cost

While laser hair removal can be costly, many patients find the treatment’s lasting effects and reduced hair growth more than worth the cost. The cost of a laser hair removal treatment varies depending on the area being treated, the physician performing the treatment, the number of treatments in a package, and other considerations. Since all individuals have their own unique pattern of hair growth, it is difficult to give a precise estimate of the number of treatments needed to completely eliminate your problem hair, or the exact cost of doing so. The safest approach is to set up a consultation with a physician in order to better understand prices for your particular case.

Consult a Physician for Exact Estimates

For many patients, three treatments may be enough to provide hair removal for many months. For others it may take more or less than three laser hair removal treatments. Many offices will offer a package of treatment sessions at a discount. Below find two charts with pricing estimates by region and body area being treated. Please note that these are estimates and in no way represent exact pricing at any location.

Pricing Chart

Region Average Cost for 1 treatment
Midwest $450
East $425
South $400
West $420

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the national average cost for laser hair removal is $429. Fees within various cities may vary depending on whether the doctor’s practice is in an urban, suburban or rural area. This fee only covers the doctor’s costs, and does not include other miscellaneous costs.

Area Average Cost for 1 treatment
Bikini $350 to $500
Back Hair $600 to $900
Lower Legs $600 to $850
Upper Legs $600 to $850
Arms $350 to $500
Chest $350 to $600
Under Arms $250 to $350
Face & Neck $600 to $900

After finding a qualified practitioner, it is important to meet with the doctor for a consultation visit. This gives the doctor a chance to view the area needed for treatment, explain the procedure in detail, including risks, benefits, costs, and other related material.

Now you could ask the doctor in front of your computer!

————————————————————————

Q: What are the different types of lasers used for hair removal?

There are several laser and laser-like devices currently used for hair removal. Some of the more common ones are discussed throughout this website…

Q: Will Laser Hair Removal work for me?

Due to the fact that a laser targets melanin, the more melanin an individual has in his/her hair, the more effective a laser will be. Therefore, someone with gray, red, or blonde hair is not as good a candidate for laser hair removal as one with darker hair….

Q: What is “Home Laser Hair Removal”?

There are a number of home devices now for sale which can remove hair with laser/light energy.

There are a few at-home laser hair removal devices that may be effective, such as the Tria Laser or Silk’n. Always make sure the take-home product is approved by the FDA.

—————————————————————–

Once you decide to have hair laser removal treatment, you must worry about what will happens to the skin after LHR?

The area that be treated of laser hair removal may become :

Pink or Red. The color is a response from the laser on the skin, clients describe it as mild sunburn.

Bumpy. The bumps are from the heat trying to escape from the hair follicle.

This reaction is very normal and temporary because the laser does not damage the skin, it usually subsides within a day or so. If necessary, the doctor may prescribe a topical cream or aloe on the area to cool your skin. Some people experience a slight crusting of the skin. If crusting occurs, keep the area moist with petroleum jelly (Vaseline).

After laser hair removal treatment:

Against redness or bumpy of the skin, you can use the Cold Compress. Use ice and place it over the affected area gently, changing as often as necessary.

Use makeup or antibacterial creams sparingly after laser hair removal however moisturizing creams is commended. Moisturizing creams can aid in the recovery of the skin in the treated areas.

Don’t wax or pluck hairs between treatments.

Don’t pick at or manipulate the skin in treated areas.

Don’t rub or scrub the treated area. You may gently wash the area with soap and water.

Avoid exercise and exertion for the first 24 hours. Perspiration from exertion may increase irritation caused by the laser.

Avoid exposure to the sun for several weeks after treatment. Apply sunblock that at least SPF 25 for the first few weeks. Avoid tanning booths - the ultraviolet light damages the skin.

Laser hair removal feel like a rubber band snapping skin.It is also important to remember that everyone is different and it will depend on you level of sensitivity or pain tolerance. The pain wasn’t unbearable at all, nothing like the searing pain of waxing.

To take the edge off, pop acetaminophen beforehand, or ask your doctor to prescribe a numbing cream (apply 30 minutes ahead of time). Slight redness and swelling afterward is normal, Ice packs may be applied to the skin following treatment. If localized blistering occurs, a topical antibiotic ointment is applied once or twice daily until healed.

What kinds of possible risk or side effect can occur when you have hair laser removal treatment? In fact, laser hair removal is normally a quiet safe technique and above mentioned side effects are very rare and their chances are nearly zeroed in an person having ideal candidate like properties. But it also has some potential risk in hair laser removal.

Normal side effects

Itching, during treatment ; Redness for up to 3 days ; Swelling (around mouth of follicle) for up to 3 days ; Pain, tingling, feeling of numbness (cold spray)

Rare side effects

Crusting/scab formation (on ingrown hairs) ; Bruising ; Purpura (purple coloring of the skin) on tanned area ; Infection ; Burns of skin ; Temporary pigment change (hypo-pigmentation hyper-pigmentation)

Temporary side effects

The temporary effects eventually go away with days, weeks, or even months, including : Swelling ; Reddening after treatment ; Blistering of skin ; Hypo pigmentation

Permanent side effects
Hyper pigmentation ; Burns of skin ; Scarring

Hyper pigmentation

Whatever the type of laser used chances are there that there may be hyper pigmentation of skin after exposure to lasers. In this condition the skin is darkened as a result of increased pigment deposition. Usually Dark or tanned skin is more prone to develop this. A good news is that it can be readily treated with the use of bleaching agents and is a temporary.

Hypo pigmentation

There is also a likelihood of postoperative hypo pigmentation in some persons undergoing laser hair removal. Hypo pigmentation is common in darker skin type and multiple exposures to laser treatment. As with hyper pigmentation, it is often temporary, permanent hypo pigmentation is rarely documented. This complication is mostly experienced with use of alexandrite, Q-switched ruby, and Nd:YAG lasers

Reddening after treatment

The superficial skin is reddened after continuous laser exposure. It is one of the minor laser hair removal side effects and its duration depends upon the depth and degree of dermal wound. Effective cooling and use of appropriate exposure time during the procedure has minimized this complication.

Blistering of skin

The skin may be blistered after the laser hair removal procedure, the case may be the use of higher fluence for a darker skin type. Tissue cooling should be performed through a contact chill tip or cryogen spray to protect the skin. These measures serve to protect the skin from excessive thermal abuse. With the introduction of new and efficient cooling devices these common side effects have been mostly taken care of.

Burns of skin

Burns is very rare and they are usually the work of less qualified technicians. It can be painful, but burns will heal with appropriate after care.

Post operative crusting

10% of patients, treated for laser hair removal with long-pulsed ruby and alexandrite lasers may develop crusting. This is usually due to repeatedly over treating an area with laser. In this case appropriate postoperative care is strongly recommended in order to avoid an otherwise inevitable skin crusting.

Wound infection

Wound infection is uncommon after laser procedures and may be noted in only those cases in which the epidermis has been damaged. Infection can be caused by any of the various pathogens, viral, fungal or bacterial. Herpes simplex virus might reactivate in some patients. This can be effectively controlled by application of antibiotic and anti viral creams as prophylactic medication after the procedure.

Scarring

Cosmetic scarring has been the most feared consequence of laser hair removal but thanks to the new technology of Q switched and pulsed lasers that uses the principle of selective photothermolysis, the risk of scarring is greatly reduced. This may result directly after a laser procedure or as a result of an infection occurring afterwards. The risk of scarring is minimal with pulsed hair removal laser systems. Different factors like number of times exposed and laser used determine the intensity and extent of scarring.

Darkening of tattoos

Cosmetics and tattoos using ferric oxides are converted into ferrous oxides by the lasers and black insoluble pigment is produced within the skin. This can be avoided easily by washing the eyeliner, lip liners or brown liners before the laser treatment and carefully avoiding the tattoos.

Injury to eye

Laser eye safety is extremely important during any procedure involving lasers. The direct or indirect exposure of eyes to laser irradiation can lead to ocular complications. The lasers can pass through cornea lens and cause lesions of choroid and retinal vasculature. These may occur via direct or indirect ocular exposure to laser irradiation. Potential damage is wavelength-specific. Thus, wavelength-specific laser safety eyewear must be worn by both operators and patients.

Conclusion

So as we known, the side-effects of hair laser removal can be further minimized by having proper knowledge of the procedure and selecting a good laser hair clinic and a well reputed physician who takes care of clients after treatment difficulties.

Though recent decades have seen many changes in our concepts of masculinity and femininity, one thing has not changed: women still are not supposed to have hair on their face or body. That this is not biologically accurate – most women do have at least some extra hair somewhere – has not changed fashion. So once till summer, there are many female going to the beauty salon carrying on laser hair removal.

Although unwanted hair is certainly a cosmetic problem, it may be a medical problem as well, depending on what causes it.Then experts reminds that the female of body hair abnormality might as well check sex hormones and the cystic kidney last vein,in the meantime, having hair laser removal treatment.

There is no sharp dividing line between normal and abnormal amounts of hair. Facial and body hair is a very personal matter and so a personal definition is appropriate: hair that is enough to make a woman afraid that it will show is too much. However this does not mean that a medical problem is present. A few hairs in the following locations are normal for a woman: outer corners of the upper lip, the chin, around the nipples, between the navel and pubic region and the tops of the thighs. If a woman has more than light growth of hair in these places or if there is wider coverage of face and body, then the condition of hirsutism can be said to be present. This degree of extra hair is reason for medical evaluation, especially if accompanied by irregular periods or weight problems.

Abnormal hairs is divided into two kinds: physiology and pathology. The normal female’s body hair and male have big difference, for example, the male body hair is thick airtight and black;Female body hair even if very thick airtight, but the color to be a lot of shallow; The male’s pubic hair presents rhombus to distribute, the female then presents to pour triangle to distribute. If the female’s body hair presents a male characteristic, solution problem wasn’t only a depilation so and in brief, this might be that the androgenic is excessive, the adrenal gland appears the performance of problem.

Shaving does not make the hair shaft thicker, darker, or grow faster or slower. However, the short hair shaft may be more noticeable as it grows out because it has a blunt tip instead of the normal tapered tip. Shaving should be done after applying some type of moisturizer to the skin to help the razor glide over the skin, not cut or scr-ape it. Common moisturizers include water, shaving cream, hair conditi-oner, or body wash.

Women and Unwanted Hair

Pubic Hair Removal - Shaving Pubic Hair

For pubic hair removal, shaving is most utilized. Whether you’re a male or female, get a fresh razor and follow these steps to avoid in-grown hairs and infections which feel itchy and appear as painful bumps.
Sit in a chair with your feet up above your waist and legs spread apart.

Trim your Pubic Hair

To make this process easier, trim the genital area before applying the razor! You’ll save blades this way. Electric razors, clippers (with safety guards) or scissors work well. To get a closer cut and avoid unwanted nicks, pull the hair up then trim away.

Exfoliating (Removing dead skin)

It’s important to clean your skin after shaving. The best way is with a “loofa sponge” and your normal body soap. Due to sensitivity of this area, rub lightly with the sponge to prevent skin irritation. This will help remove anything that may clog the pores.

Moisturizing

Rinse, dry and moisturize the freshly shaven pubic area. Baby oil and Aloe Vera work well. It’s best to avoid moisturizers that contain fragrances and colors, since this may cause irritation. You may also want to use baby powder for comfort.

Hygienic Maintenance

Wash your shaven genitals on a daily basis. This helps remove unwanted oils and sweat. Moisturize and powder the area daily to avoid irritation. If you keep the hair short, you’ll avoid stubbles, which causes itching. Try to wear cotton underwear and to stay away from tight fitting cloths pants. The lack of air circulation and friction of tight cloths may lead to in-grown hairs.

A Few Warnings

For some people, pubic hair is always easy and fun. However, for many other people it presents problems. When the genital hair begins to grow back, itching often occurs. Red bumps and ingrown hair may appear. To relieve the irritation, you can apply cortisone cream. If these symptoms cause you stress or don’t go away, see a doctor.

People who are allergic and react to some shaving creams. This area seems to have heightened sensitivity. Furthermore, if it does react, your natural sweat and the natural abrasion this area receives will most likely make your life miserable (temporarily). Use hypoallergenic shaving creams or consider avoiding shaving all together.

Some women have noted genital sensitivity during menstruation. If shaving becomes uncomfortable for women during their periods, they should time pubic shaving around their menstruation cycle.

If shaving does irritate your skin, waxing may not cause as much irritation or in-grown hairs.

The electric current is a good destroyer. This aspect of electricity is used in the electric tweezer permanent hair removal method.

Electric tweezers were first patented in the year 1959. Following this many electrical tweezers were promoted especially targeting beauticians. They also responded well by heavy procurement by charging heavily the consumers for this unproven permanent treatment. In the year 1985, the company Remoatron was charged for its deceptive advertisements and unproven claims. Its market share of electric tweezers was more than 80%. However, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s order barring electric tweezers had a loophole. It stopped the use of AC tweezers only. Exploiting this, direct current electric tweezers came on the market. Since then electrical tweezers using direct electric current continue to be sold on the market.

Electric tweezers Basic facts

Electric tweezers and treatments with them should be avoided by all consumers. They’re often promoted as permanent, but facts indicate otherwise.

Electric tweezers Description

Electric current is applied to a hair through an electrified tweezer.

The tweezer grasps the hair above the skin’s surface and holds it anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes.

Promoters claim (without adequate proof) that the electricity travels down the hair and permanently damages the hair root.

Electric tweezers Advantages

Some find treatment has less associated pain and side effects compared to ordinary tweezing.

Safe if performed properly.

Electric tweezers Disadvantages

No published clinical proof of claims that they can achieve permanent hair
removal.

No published clinical proof that electricity can travel through a hair and cause permanent damage to the root.

Up to 100 times slower than ordinary tweezing.

Can be expensive despite no published proof of permanence (especially costly “professional” units and treatments).

Electric tweezers Quack claims
There is no published clinical data to substantiate the following claims:

“Painless and permanent.”

“No side effects.”

“Clinically proven.”

“More effective than electrolysis, and without the needle.”

“Hair can conduct enough energy to kill the root.” (considerable scientific evidence suggests this is not possible)

These devices generate additional victims when sold as business opportunities: “Makes a great home business.”

“Offer your salon clients permanent hair removal.”

Electric tweezers Background

Electric tweezer claims are simply too good to be true. If a permanent method that required no skill and caused no pain or side effects came along, market forces and word of mouth would quickly make it the industry standard.

Personal units are usually sold for home use for $100.00 to $200.00, but sometimes as much as $3,500.00 or more. Accessories like conductive gels, humidifiers, or pre- and post-treatment products to “increase effectiveness” can add to total costs. “Professional” treatments usually cost consumers $0.50 to $2.00 a minute.

“Professional” units are usually sold as home business opportunities or to beauty salons as an add-on service. The unwitting practitioner then treats consumers seeking permanent hair removal. Practitioners often sincerely believe the device works as claimed and sell treatments without knowing it’s quackery. This ends up unintentionally bilking clients and ruining the practitioner’s business reputation in the long run.

Electric tweezer promoters are very sophisticated in their sales pitches. They blend facts and fiction to make their scientifically unsound explanations seem believable. They also carefully phrase claims to fool unsuspecting consumers.

By charging exorbitant prices for “professional” units, electric tweezer promoters have found that some consumers will assume it’s permanent simply because of the high cost. When prices are competitive with needle epilators or lasers, it suggests to some consumers that they are competitive in terms of effectiveness.

Although electric tweezers are marketed as “professional” or “personal” units, there is no published proof indicating any difference in effectiveness between the two types.

Electric tweezer marketers sometimes claim there is a difference between electric tweezers using alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC), but there is no published proof indicating any difference in effectiveness between the two types.

General marketing terms: no-needle electrolysis, non-invasive electrolysis, tweezer electrolysis, tweezolysis. AC tweezers are also marketed as radio-frequency (RF) tweezers, high-frequency (HF) tweezers, ultrasonic tweezers. DC tweezers are also marketed as galvanic tweezers.

Electric tweezers History

Electric tweezers were patented in 1959 by Elizabeth Fozard and hailed by promoters as a “painless and permanent” alternative to electrolysis. Eventually, “professional” electric tweezer units were heavily promoted in the 1970’s to beauticians, who in turn unwittingly charged their clients for unproven “permanent” treatments.

In 1985, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charged electric tweezer Removatron with deceptively advertising that the product can permanently remove hair. At that time, FTC estimated Removatron was responsible for 80% of the electric tweezer market revenue. FTC estimated consumers spent a total of $37.5 million on electric tweezer devices and treatments that year. In 1987, FTC forced Removatron to include in all promotional material the following: “IMPORTANT: There is no reliable evidence that Removatron provides anything more than temporary hair removal.” Although this was modified in 1991, FTC still held there was not sufficient evidence to support claims of permanent hair removal. The company is still prohibited from making unsubstantiated hair-removal claims.

Following FTC’s Removatron action, electric tweezers using direct current appeared, exploiting a loophole in the1985 FTC ruling, which only prohibited claims by AC tweezers. Some electric tweezers began selling conductive gel with the tweezers, which was used to bolster dubious claims of hair conductivity.

In the 1990’s, millions of electric tweezer “personal units” (notably the IGIA brand) were sold through direct response television. In 1997 alone, the top-selling brand IGIA sold over $75 million worth of their electric tweezers. The 1990’s also saw the modification of electric tweezers called “transdermal electrolysis”

In 1998 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that “there is no statistically significant scientific data available at this time to support promotional claims of permanent or long-term removal of hair through use of the device.”

Electric tweezers Costs

Equipment: Between $100.00 to $5,000.00+
“Professional” treatments: Between $0.50 to $2.00 a minute.
Accessories: Some brands sell items like conductive gels, humidifiers, or pre- and post-treatment products to “increase effectiveness.”

Electric tweezers Clinical data

Published clinical data indicate that electric tweezers cannot achieve permanent hair removal.
Unpublished reports written or commissioned by manufacturers typically claim permanent results.
However, non-manufacturers have demonstrated that electric tweezer claims of “hair conductivity” do not pass scientific scrutiny.
Despite their scientific-sounding sales pitches, these devices have not demonstrated they can achieve permanent hair removal. Save your money.
